“Villa Mittermeier” is a small but famous hotel and restaurant complex in the beautiful city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Southern Germany. The chef, Christian Mittermeier was awarded a Michelin Star twice and runs the place together with his wife and a staff of ten.
Villa Mittermeier offers two restaurants, one very exclusive and the other more casual in a lovely antique cellar. Both share a patio and terrace which posed the first challenge as the terrace is supposed to double up as a parking lot for hotel guests during the winter season.
Both restaurants had been outfitted in the past by an interior architect. However, the patio and terrace had apparently been treated as an afterthought, lacking flexibility. Enter Rikiki, already having collaborated with Christian in another restaurant project, the two of them knew what they needed to to do.
After a pleasurable trip to Rothenburg with highly exclusive kitchen tasting sessions, Rikiki proposed three different concepts for bringing the outside areas on par with the inside. Because running a hospitality business is all about flexible and seamless logistics, Rikiki paid particular attention to plants, materials, furniture pieces and tableware elements which were easy to move, arrange and on budget.
Quickly agreeing on a sound plan, Rikiki handled the ordering process to scale and – having a great excuse for another fine dining session – made sure all elements were installed and applied as planned, including a “kids magnet” on the patio, the free-running, three seat, cushioned swing.
