A couple is adding an extra floor to their house, creating a connection to the new section through an opening in the living room. The existing furniture—a black couch, a white lowboard, and a rustic farmhouse cabinet—will remain. The goal was to design the surrounding elements: an accent wall, wall colors for the remaining walls, and curtains.

Concept

Since the scope of the project was manageable, we presented the various concepts directly with physical samples of the proposed materials and colors—no guesswork about what lies behind a digital screen display. Seven variations were developed, each with its own character: from textured wallpapers in gray and beige to an abstractly painted accent wall and calm, textile wall coverings.

Result

The choice fell on the "Cécile" concept: a large-scale abstract wallcovering as an accent wall, the remaining walls in a gray-blue tinted white, and, as the perfect finishing touch, a wonderfully semi-transparent, double-sided curtain from Kvadrat. It's a combination that gives the room depth without overwhelming the existing furniture.
